Russian election:when democracy doesn’t matter
2008 - 03 - 6, KetvirtadienisI’d like to write a few things about the Russian election of the President. The election with the predictable results, the election that was publicly criticized and quietly accepted. Could there be a different election campaign and different results in Russia? Maybe there could be, but were there really enough of people who would’ve wanted long and stormy election campaign and unpredictable results?
Yes, the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) refused to send its officials to observe the Russian election, but leaders of the most European countries will be working with new Russian President in the same respectful manner they were dealing with Vladimir Putin. Because that fits their rational interests. For many Western European leaders it’s much easier to deal with non democratic, but predictable Russia. Plačiau…
