When I started my own blog in Summer 2005, I became the first politician blogger in Lithuania, in the Baltics and maybe in the whole of “New Europe”. Actually, back then I was one of the first Lithuanian bloggers who posted daily. Pretty hard to believe now that blogs and bloggers are so common everywhere around the world including Lithuania. I am proud to have been a blog “pioneer” in Lithuania and that the fast growing Lithuanian blogging community voted my site, www.zuokas.lt , the best Lithuanian political blog. That award for me is the best proof that people really read what I write on my blog. 

   At the time of my blogging debut I was Mayor of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. I was elected as Mayor for the first time in 2000 - at the age of 32.  I was then the youngest Mayor of a capital city in the world, as far as I know.  I was re-elected and served until Spring 2007.

  I enjoyed every day as Mayor of Vilnius, a city that changed enormously during those seven years.  (You can read more about my personal life and career facts in my blog under “About me”.)  While Mayor, I tried and often succeeded to improve the quality of life in the city, to make life in the city more interesting and creative. Creativity in whatever I do is extremely important for me. I like challenges and I’m always looking for a new ideas while traveling around the world. And in Vilnius we ourselves introduced many new ideas that were picked up by other cities in Lithuania and even in some other countries. Plačiau…

      Tuščioje ir ramioje Palangoje su miesto vadovais, benduomenės ir verslo atstovais vakar kalbėjomės apie tai, kad pagrindiniam pajūrio kurortui būtinas papildomas traukos centras – konferencijų, kongresų ir kultūros centras. Viešbučiai Palangoje puikūs, kita aptarnavimo sfera irgi gana išvystyta, ir miestas net ne vasaros sezono metu galėtų priimti nemažai žmonių, galėtų tapti patrauklia įvairių konferencijų, ar kitų susitikimų vieta, bet šiuo metu neturi tam tinkamo centro. Gali būti, kad jau kitais metais bus priimti sprendimai, kad tokio centro statyba būtų numatyta.
  Vakar Palangoje, o šiandien Klaipėdoje lankausi, tęsdamas susitikimus su savo kolegomis, skirtingų Lietuvos miestų verslo ir kultūros žmonėmis. Plačiau…
